BIO
Jos Raban-de Jongh, born in 1965 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is a contemporary artist residing and working in Kibbutz Ramat David, Israel. Educated in Milan, Italy at the academy of Brera (BFA cum laude) and the University of Haifa, Israel at the School of ats of the Dr. Hecht Art Center School of arts (MFA) she continued at the non-formal New Artist Collegium CAN, to specialize further in contemporary sculpture. She initially studied medicine in the Netherlands and hroughout her life, she has moved back and forth between two distinct worlds: technical work with medical equipment and artistic creation.
Her oeuvre is marked by expressive visual language and a strong conceptual foundation recognizably influenced by a rich multicultural background. Recurring concepts of Raban-de Jongh’s work are nature, and its inherent primal energy and the embodiment of the unique and powerful force that reveals itself differently in each being. In her hands, inanimate matter awakens to life, becoming creations that seem to breathe with vitality, where one can sense the spirit and energy of living creatures. So too, her depictions of women and figurines — ancient archetypes representing resilience, strength, and cultural memory — which she makes tangible and relevant to our own time.
Raban-de Jongh currently lives on a kibbutz in the Jezreel Valley. The artist loves to experiment with materials. She sculpts in iron, steel, and bronze; designs with clay and porcelain; carves in stone and wood; illustrates and paints — and for her latest exhibition, she chose to “sculpt” in textiles as well. Through her exploration of different materials, she seeks to push boundaries and defy the "impossible" for any given medium.
To date, Raban-de Jongh has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Israel and abroad. Her work features in national and international private collections.
